Well my pretty little speedster is all registered. I didn't spring for the vanity plate this time because it was more money than I could pay for right now. My registration and inspection are due in October though so I have another chance then. I wish I could put the plate on hold. I hope no one else thinks of it.
It really took no time at all, my mom and I really just stood there while the woman typed the information in. And I had to tell her that, no I was not born in 1980, that 8 was really another 9. In my head I was thinking: Do I LOOK 30 to you lady? I hope my mom wouldn't be with me if I was. No offense Mom. Sheesh.
Went home after that and I removed the temporary plates and screwed on the real deal. It was a good moment. I remembered to bring my Swiss army knife down this time and I stowed that away in Ziva. If there is any piece of equipment that every responsible adult should have, it's a Swiss army knife. The only problem is airplanes. Instinctively, I'd want to take mine. Logically, I don't want to lose that going through security. I once lost HAND LOTION going through security. It's ridiculous.
My mom and I watched a delightful movie this afternoon, Sherlock Holmes, with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Fantastic film, I saw it in theaters and it was just as good the second time. Definitely on my list of recommends, that one. I'd like to own it actually. It's very good.
I discovered after the movie that one of the leather pieces in my belt had broken. It's a braided style belt, and one of the leather thongs in the braid had disconnected. I discovered it had been made and fastened with glue, which had then become unglued when the belt was actually used for the purpose it was manufactured. I tell you, I've never been so disappointed with American Eagle. I was very annoyed. Their belts are not cheap and I spent money on this one because I wanted a GOOD belt. I don't think I'll try that twice.
I was stubborn though, I dug through the sewing box, tested several needles in the leather, and looked at thread and came up with a long, long needle, longer than my middle finger, that was thin and sharp enough at the tip to push through the leather and three different colored threads that I threaded together in the needle. Two different shades of brown that were embroidery thread and a black thread that is thick and meant for quilting and buttons.
I only poked my finger once and an hour later I had sewed the strap back together. I really hope nothing else snaps on that belt. My last stitch was when the needle snapped in half. I wasn't pleased with that but I had repaired it successfully. I might have to go to someplace and buy a packet of long, sturdy, sharp needles. I do use them every now and then.
I haven't put the belt back on yet. I'm letting it rest so to speak. I'm a bit wary of it. Honestly. American Eagle. So disappointing.
