Oh yes! Some fun things I've been up to of late.
I've started to wear shoes with a heel. I blame/give credit to Dawn and Joanne for this because they are the two biggest fashionistas I know and adore shoes and always notice if someone looks good that day. For me this meant foraging through the basement and various other places in the house for my shoes with heels. I was very happy to find several pairs and to discover they fit better than I think they did before, and are decently comfortable. I think the younger you are, the more uncomfortable a shoe can be. There is a reason young teen's should wear heels, one of which being, it's certainly not good for your feet. I won't wear them everyday either, because I know it's still not good for my feet, even if I am a bit older now. It was a nice boost wardrobe-wise though to discover I now enjoy them. I've always thought they were fun and very attractive. Bonus: I'm not nearly as klutzy in them as I thought!
The weekend of April 9th-10th was the fifth year Sophie (and Sophie's youth group) took part in a a fundraising event called the 30 Hour Famine. It's a very noble cause, created through the organization World Vision. The basis for it is about kids who don't have enough food to eat all around the globe, and the kids who participate in the 30 Hour Famine, individually raise money to help feed some of these kids. For thirty hours, they don't eat. They drink a lot of liquids but they are not allowed to eat for thirty hours. They stay at the church on Friday night, their last meal not being after 12:30 pm, and sleepover there. Saturday, they go somewhere and do some charity/volunteer work. This year they helped a thrift store affiliated with a halfway house, that is going through some renovations. They don't eat until 6:30 pm, at which time some kind of dinner is prepared for them back at the church.
Sophie asked me if I would mind asking people at work to please consider donating to the cause in her name. She gave me a piece of paper with the background of the event and the information and a list at the bottom for people to write their name and their donation amount. The page had nine lines available. I decided that throughout the day I would just traverse the entire office and let each person read it and donate to the cause if they were able to and would like to. First, I made a few copies of the page. All said and done, I collected donations from 17 people (two pages!) for a total amount of $400. I was very pleased with myself and Sophie was absolutely giddy. I felt very good about myself that day, and I really had fun doing it.
I bought some books recently. I do not buy books very often, partly because I don't have the funds and partly because, oh how could I ever decide? But on a trip to Barnes and Nobles with Sophie in March (I think) I bought four books and with my gift certificate to CBD (Easter present!) I bought two more. Now that my job has nearly finished, I will have time to read them, and I greatly look forward to it.
I had a wonderful blessing happen in my ebay search for another one of my favorite handbag (the strap of mine broke several months ago) a few weeks ago. I've had the saved search "aldo black handbag" for months, with the new postings being e-mailed to me regularly. For months my search was in vain, but on April 1st, I was on the ebay page sadly perusing the handbags when lo and behold, I see the bag I want in the store part of ebay, for sale by a woman in the United Kingdom! I made some loud happy sound and raced to get my wallet to buy it. I didn't care about the price, I wanted my bag. All said and done, it was $32 dollars (including shipping) and a very trying experience when the seller appeared to have gypped me of my money, but today, my bag arrived in the mail. Oh happy happy day. A wonderful surprise.
Happiness.
